Summary: The U.S. Mission in Nairobi is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Mason.
The work schedule for this position is: Full Time (40 hours per week).
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Supervisory Position: No
Duties:
The Incumbent works in the Facility Management Section of the Embassy, under the direct supervision and guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor – C52610, to perform master craftsman level masonry construction and repairs throughout the New Embassy Compound (NEC) functional/office buildings, on-compound ancillary support buildings, residential buildings, recreational facilities, and other residential properties.
Qualifications and Evaluations
EDUCATION: Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training program from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman Level Certification Grade 1 in Masonry field is required.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three (3) years’ work experience as a mason on commercial or industrial buildings doing maintenance and new construction is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE: English Level III (Good) Speaking/Reading/Writing is required (This may be tested). Kiswahili Level III (Good) Speaking/Reading/Writing is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Must possess good communication skills and ability to interact with customers in a constructive manner.
- Must respond to urgent situations in an efficient and timely manner to effect immediate repairs.
- Works in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, on ladders at various heights, and in temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments.
- Communicates orally and in writing with co-workers, and vendors to obtain and provide pertinent information.
- Uses a computer; to include MS Word and Outlook, and able to write e-mails.
- Types on a keyboard.
- Must have a valid, current license for driving pick-up trucks (Class C1). Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years.
- Should have a good knowledge of Masonry construction, maintenance, and safety procedures in work related areas, and ability to comprehend and apply relevant safety codes.
- Read and interpret architectural drawings and schematics.
- Excellent working knowledge of materials, mechanical tools, and equipment associated with the masonry trade.
Qualifications: All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications.
